When Vienna-native Mike Staininger first walked through Wasenmoos National Park years ago, he felt a deep sense of connection and belonging to the region, and had a vision to develop the land into something incredible - all in a sustainable fashion.

This comes as no surprise to those who know the area - the striking mountain region just outside Kitzbühel is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts all year round, with world-class skiing in the winter and lush alpine landscapes to explore in the summer. Walking around the Wasenmoos at 1,230 metres, taking in the crisp mountain air and looking out over the largest National Park in the Alps, Hohe Tauern, is nothing short of breathtaking - now imagine that’s your back garden.

Why Six Senses?

Although he was approached by many luxury hospitality brands for the Kitzbühel Alps Hotel and Branded Residences project, Mike knew that the brand he chose would need to respect the natural beauty of the area, and integrate itself into the fabric of the mountains, as opposed to towering over them. The only brand that could bring his vision for a sustainable, wellness-driven Alpine ski resort to life was Six Senses.

This sense of connection to Six Senses runs deep for Mike, as it was at the Yao Noi Resort in Thailand that he proposed to his wife. He decided then and there that if the brand ever ventured into Europe, he must be a part of it.

Giving back to the community

Mike is extremely mindful of the local community of Kitzbühel and the surrounding region, and is excited at the prospect of being able to share this opportunity with them.

There are a number of ways that Six Senses Kitzbühel Alps will give back to the local community. From creating a fund to protect the national park to integrating all of the local farms for locally sourced produce, the project will also create around 1,000 jobs in the area.
